How To Survive A Long Distance Relationship

Does abcense make the heart grow founder? Or is it out of sight out of mind?
Long distance relationships are one of the most difficult relationships a person can be in, but they are not impossible. It takes a lot of work and effort to keep a long distance relationship alive and well! Here are some steps you can take to survive a long distance relationship.

  1. Make sure this is a relationship worth the effort it takes to be in a long distance relationship.          if you don't see a future with this person then why go through the troubles of being in a long distance relationship? Lets no try to make a boat with no fuel float for as long as it can, that's just  pointless. If it's a strong and stable relationship then put 100 percent into it!
  2. Come up with a time frame, long distance relationships can't last forever. You both must come up with a game plan. Often relationships become long distance because of school, work etc. What ever the reason is, it's always easier to know OK in X amount of time we will be together again.
  3. communication, this is VITAL in a long distance relationship; the vein pumping the blood to your heart. Phone calls, texting, emails and reaching out via social media is extremely important.
  4. visual communication, video chatting via skype, tango or facetime has to be a must in a long distance relationship. Humans are very visual creatures and seeing your loved ones face will help during this period of long distance. Set up video dates that you both can't break, before bed or while eating dinner, or even both. In additional the exchange of racy pictures can be fun and exciting. Since you can't physically be there with your guy/gal keeping things fun, exciting and light is important.
  5. Just because gifts, thoughtfulness is always appreciated long distance or not. Sending flowers to her OR him is a great way to make someones day. Writing letters and sending unexpected packages is a great way to let your significant other know your on my mind!
  6. Frequent visits, being with your significant other in physical form is more then just important its the only way to really keep the relationship alive. Yes you want to see the one you love every day or every weekend but in some cases that's highly unlikely. Once or twice a month is ideal, and every other month is manageable as well.
  7. Be supportive, There will be times when your significant other will go through times of stress either at school, work or just in their daily life. This is a time when there shouldn't be any arguing, and you should be very understanding. Loneliness is a frequent emotion during this time and trying your best to give support and attention to your significant other should be top on your list of daily things to do.
  8. Honesty, This is a time in the relationship when lies will have you buried 6 feet under. In this time of separation people can become extremely paranoid and often times insecure in their boyfriend/girlfriend, wife/husband position. If you're going to go out with friends you should say so. It's easy to omit information about what your doing and who your doing it with.

Long distance relationships can be tough but in the end it will make your bond that much stronger. Remember to be strong have faith and most importantly have love and respect for each other!
Good Luck!
